The Château des Moriers is a family owned vineyard since 1850. Today, 3 siblings from the Monrozier’s family representing 5 generations of wine growers are working together the daily operations and management of Château des Moriers. Gilles Monrozier, middle brother, have been working in the field as well for a few years now. He perpetuates the tradition of wine making in the family but he is also an innovator and revolutionize the wine making and aging process. With the help Jean-Claude Montangeron that works in the vineyard and the cellar for 20 years now, there is a real “Know How” that makes the particularity of the domaine's wines. Gilles Monrozier develops all sales within the Paris region to cafés, restaurants and wine shops and always keeps a case in his cellar for his fans. His daughter, Anne-Victoire, aka Miss Vicky Wine organises wine events featuring French and foreign wines in wine bars all over Europe. Vicky Wine has a relaxed unassuming vibe and with all her good wines; Vicky makes her grape accessible to all levels of wine drinkers. This new generation gives a new dynamism to the vineyard as well as giving more complexity to the wine. The château features two of the best crus of Beaujolais : Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. In the region we call them the queen and the king of Beaujolais. The Fleurie has very feminine particularities : delicacy, fruit and flower. It’s easy drinking wine, but also very elegant. At the domaine we make it complex and more structured than the average. The Moulin-à-vent is richer with more tannins. Its name comes from the historical windmill that overlook the vines of the cru. One of the more robust wines of Beaujolais, it is sometimes confused with Burgundy wine. As with Burgundy, our Moulin-à-vent ages well with similar maturing properties and as a good Gamay should be, it stills maintains freshness. The vinification and vineyard care follows Beaujolais tradition, with full mature grapes stored in tanks for 10 days. The grapes are then pushed down the tank with grills to give them a better contact with the juice. Later, a portion of the Fleurie ages in old barrels while the Moulin-à-vent is in new oak barrels of 400L for 9 months. Gamay is the principle grape variety in Beaujolais where it has the best results. Taste its expression in this Fleurie and if you like it, feel free to give us a call when you are in Paris or visit us in Beaujolais !
